Scotland’s Most Exciting Rock Band – Holy Esque

9 Mar

Hello Everyone!

So regardless of the fact I do not normally listen to rock music, I have to admit this Glasgow band have changed my opinion of the genre! The band is made up of four 20-year-olds: singer and guitarist Pat Hynes, guitarist Hugo McGinley, Keir Reid on keys and the drummer, Ralph McClure. Not only did they release their debut self-titled EP last year, they also went on to support Manchester’s Wu Lyf around Europe and have gained comparisons to the likes of the fellow Glaswegians, Glasvegas and the singer Rod Stewart. They also performed at the Monster’s of Pop Festival in Tampere last year. They are the ones to watch in 2013!

Bastille’s First Number One (and Top 20 Hit) !

4 Mar

Hello Everyone! I hope you are all well and excited for this week’s top ten chart hits!

In top spot this week is a brand new entry from the indie band Bastille with their latest single “Pompeii”. This is not only the London based band’s first number one but in fact their first song to ever reach the Top 20! Their previous single “Flaws” made the top 40 last year and narrowly missed the Top 20 reaching the 21st spot in it’s highest week. As you can imagine, the band are overjoyed at their success.

In the second spot is last week’s number one, the Comic Relief Charity Single,  “One Way Or Another (Teenage Kicks)” from the British boy-band One Direction. The group, whose success has matched and even exceeded the legendary band The Beatles, kicked off their massive world-arena tour at the iconic London O2 Arena to a sold-out crowd of 20,000 fans, or ‘Directioners’ as they prefer to be referred to.

Moving up five places from last week, Justin Timberlake’s “Mirrors” has claimed the third position. The singers comeback album is to be released this month and is expected to debut at the top stop.

Next in the charts is a club-smasher with the hit collaboration, “I Could Be The One” from the DJ’s Avicii and Nicki Romero. Moving down the charts (thankfully) to fifth spot is “Thrift Shop” by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, featuring Wanz. This overplayed song, which has a completely bazaar music video involving ducks, hasn’t earned a place on my iPod just yet.

In sixth position is Taylor Swift’s catchy song, “I Knew You Were Trouble”. The star, along with thousands of twitter users, re-posted a hilarious YouTube remix video of the hit this week – make sure you check out the ‘Goat Version’ !

Bruno Mars’ emotional ballad, ” When I Was Your Man” has moved down to the seventh spot followed by Pink’s new single “Just Give Me A Reason” featuring Nate Ruess, the lead singer from the Grammy-Award winning group F.U.N.

Next in the charts is last week’s newcomer  “Harlem Shake”  by Baauer in ninth position and in the final spot is a new entry from the London Rapper Wiley with “Reload” featuring Chip.

And that’s our top ten !

Emeli Finally Got her Speech!

26 Feb

So as I mentioned in my previous blog, Scottish Singer Emeli Sande had her second year of success at The Brit Awards!

Like many before her, such as Adele and Jessie J, Emeli proved that winning the Critics Choice Award in 2012 was well deserved and only the beginning of her success. Despite being snubbed a speech last year, Emeli was nominated for four awards. This included the biggest award of the evening, British Album of the Year, which the singer won along with British Female Solo Artist. Winning Album of year meant defeating The Grammy-Award-Winning group Mumford & Sons and artist such as Plan B and Paloma Faith who have been in the industry much longer with several successful albums and tours. Unlike last year, Emeli also had the chance to perform, closing the ceremony with her ballad “Clown” followed by her more upbeat, chart-hit “Next To Me”, both from her number one debut album “Our Version Of Events”. In September 2012, “Our Version of Events” became the best-selling album of 2012 in the UK overtaking Adele’s internationally successful album “21”. The album, which Emeli began working on at just eleven years old, was released in February last year, debuting at number one, and has this week returned to the number one spot on the UK’s Official Album Charts. There’s seems to be no end to Emeli’s success!
